Karl Obauer

Karl Obauer (born August 23, 1953 in Werfen ) is an Austrian chef and hotelier who runs the Restaurant-Hotel Obauer with his eight years younger brother Rudi .

Career

Karl Obauer comes from a family of restaurateurs in Werfen in the Salzburg region . He completed his training from 1968 to 1971 at the “Bayrischer Hof” in Salzburg . This was followed by various stations in Austria, Norway and Switzerland, for example in 1974 with "Sagafjord & Vistafjord" on the "Norwegian America Line".

In 1979 he began to modernize the family business in Werfen. In the winter season from 1979 to 1984 he worked as head chef at the “Zürser Hof” on the Arlberg , where his brother also cooked. In between, in 1981, 1982 and 1983 he did internships in kitchen and service at “Au Crocodile” with Émile Jung in Strasbourg and in 1987 with Leon de Lyon at “Lacombe” in Lyon .

In 1985 a visit to the Obauer brothers' restaurant was a key experience for Johanna Maier .

In 1996, Karl and Rudolf Obauer were awarded two Michelin Guide stars , a very rare occurrence if a star had not already been awarded. Since 1997 the brothers have published various cookbooks.
