Rudolf Obauer (born February 17, 1961 in Werfen ) is an Austrian chef and hotelier who runs the Restaurant-Hotel Obauer with his brother Karl , who is eight years older than him.

Career

Rudolf "Rudi" Obauer comes from a family of restaurateurs in Werfen in the Salzburg region. He first wanted to become a technical draftsman, but his brother Karl encouraged him to train as a chef in Salzburg in 1976. He then worked from 1979 to 1984 in the winter season at the "Zürser Hof" on the Arlberg , where his brother Karl was the chef. In 1979 his brother Karl started modernizing the family business.

In 1981 he worked in the summer with the Troisgros brothers in Roanne and in the "Au Crocodile" with Émile Jung in Strasbourg , but also together with Karl in the family-owned restaurant "Obauer". Various internships followed, in 1982 in the restaurant "Trou Gascon" in Paris and 1983 in the "Faugeron" in Paris, 1984 in the "Rommeier" in Brussels and 1987 with Alain Chapel in Mionnay .

In 1985 a visit to the Obauer brothers' restaurant was a key experience for Johanna Maier .

In 1996, Karl and Rudolf Obauer were awarded two Michelin Guide stars , a very rare occurrence if a star had not already been awarded.

Since 1997 the brothers have published various cookbooks.

Rudi Obauer has three children with his wife Angelika.
