Karl Pronhagl
Karl Pronhagl (born December 22, 1961 in Idolsberg ) is an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces with the rank of major general and since 2016 the 44th commander of the Theresian Military Academy .
Life
Karl Pronhagl was born on December 22nd, 1961 in Idolsberg and, after graduating from the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Zwettl in 1980 and completing basic military service as a one-year volunteer with the 33rd Landwehr Tribe Regiment in Mautern on the Danube, he completed officer training at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , where he worked in 1984 was retired to lieutenant and was assigned as an infantry officer to the 4th training company of the 33rd Landwehr Trunk Regiment. He worked here as platoon commander, training officer and deputy company commander.
From 1985 to 1991 he was training course commander and deputy class commander at the Theresian Military Academy . This was followed by the use in security operations at the state border with Yugoslavia as an orderly officer of the commandant (academics battalion ).
From 1991 to 1994 he completed the 13th general staff course at the National Defense Academy in Vienna. From 1994 to 1995 he was a consultant in the then leadership department in General Staff Group B and responsible for the anti-tank concept and for the international staff exercise Trimigant .
As a further function followed the employment as chief of the staff of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade . 1998 to 2000 he attended the general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. In October 2000 he was transferred to the General Staff of the Federal Ministry for National Defense , he became head of the General Staff department. On January 1st, 2003 he was given a command of the troops again, he became the commander of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade. He handed this command over to Brigadier Anton Wessely in 2008 .
For the first time in the history of the Federal Armed Forces, Ponhagl became the commandant of a multinational brigade deployed abroad. From December 2005 to May 2006 Pronhagl led the Multinational Task Force North as part of Operation Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina . He was responsible for around 1,500 soldiers from 14 nations. In September 2008, he became Deputy Chief of Staff in the Operational Leadership Command in Ulm .
Since 2014 he has been head of the training group (Section II) in the planning section in the Federal Ministry of Defense and Sport .
He is currently the 44th commandant of the Theresian Military Academy . He was promoted to major general on June 29, 2017 .

Karl Pronhagl has been married since 1987, has two daughters and lives in Gars am Kamp .
