Karl Reschke (functionary)

Karl Reschke (born December 16, 1925 in Oberbeuna , Merseburg district ) is a functionary of the German deaf and deaf sports movement. He was President of the Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the GDR .

Life

Reschke attended the deaf school in Erfurt from 1931 to 1939 and learned the trade of administrative clerk. From 1954 to 1990 he worked as a sports teacher at the " Albert Gutzmann " school for the deaf in Berlin . Reschke was an active athlete . In 1953 he took part as a sprinter (100 m and 200 m) at the VII World Games for the Deaf in Brussels .

In the spring of 1957, Raschke in Halle (Saale) was one of the founders of the General German Deaf Association (GDR Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing since 1973). From 1957 to 1982 he was chairman of the Berlin district association . In 1977 he became vice president and from 1982 to 1989 he was president of the GDR Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Reschke had been a member of the central board of the deaf and hard of hearing association since 1961. He was a member of the SED .

For many years Reschke held honorary positions in the Berlin sports communities. Most recently, he was division manager for the hearing impaired in the district committee of the German Sports Association for disabled sports in the GDR.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, Reschke was elected to the board of the Deaf Sports Association in Berlin-Brandenburg in 1994. Until 2002 he was its deputy chairman. After the resignation of the 1st chairman Harry Förster due to illness, Reschke held the office of 1st chairman until the next election.

He is currently (2015) working as an archivist on the Deaf Sports Movement and the Berlin Deaf Movement.
