Karl Spoerri (* 1973 in Zurich ) is a Swiss founder and festival director of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF).

Life

In 2004 Karl Spoerri and Tim Geser decided to bring the renowned English digital film festival “onedotzero_adventures in moving images” to Zurich. From October 29 to 31, 2004, the festival was a guest at the Zurich University of Art and Design (HGKZ) and Spoerri developed the idea of ​​organizing an international festival in Zurich. In May 2005, together with Antoine Monot, Jr., he founded "Spoundation Motion Picture GmbH" , which held the Zurich Film Festival for the first time from October 5th to 9th, 2005. In July 2005, Nadja Schildknecht also took part in Spoundation Motion Picture GmbH.

Spoerri has been the artistic director of the ZFF since 2005 and is a partner and chairman of the management board of Spoundation Motion Picture GmbH. From January 2009 to July 2011, Spoerri was also Managing Director of Millbrook Pictures AG. Millbrook produces feature films, including Oliver Stones W. - A misunderstood life (2008) and Lila, Lila with Daniel Brühl . In 2010 Spoerri co-produced A Dangerous Method , directed by David Cronenberg, with Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen . In March 2010, Millbrook entered into a partnership with Marc Forster's company Apparatus. Karl Spoerri has been Co-Chairman of the Film Finance Forum Zurich (FFFZ) since 2010. The FFFZ is an international conference on film financing.

In April 2019 it was announced that Christian Junge would succeed Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri as artistic directors of the Zurich Film Festival in 2020 .
