Karl Stoiser

Karl Stoiser (born November 1, 1923 in Graz , Styria , † June 15, 2007 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Karl Stoiser initially wanted to become a doctor , but the lack of financial resources prevented this career path. After visiting the compulsory school he graduated from the business school and was instead Kaufmann . In 1945 he became an employee of the Styrian Regional Health Insurance Fund and, thanks to his talent and the help of autodidactics , rose to head of department in 1960.

In 1953 Stoiser was elected to the Graz municipal council for the SPÖ , to which he was a member until 1978. Mayor Gustav Scherbaum appointed Stoiser to the health council of the Styrian state capital in 1962. It was also Scherbaum who made Stoiser the second vice mayor in 1970. In 1973, under Scherbaum's successor Alexander Götz , Stoiser became the first vice mayor.

After leaving the Graz city government, Stoiser was a member of the Federal Council in Vienna from 1981 to 1986 .

Within his party, he sat on the board of the SPÖ Styria. He also became honorary president of EURAG, the federal government for the older generation of Europe.
