Karl Szoldatics (born October 23, 1906 ; † February 12, 1950 ) was an Austrian football player who was part of the national team in the interwar period and won a championship title with Admira in 1932.

Club career

Szoldatics began his career with the VAFÖ club SC Fontana and moved to 1. Simmeringer SC in 1926 , where he made his debut in the top division. In the defense of the Red-Blacks, he started alongside Karl Sesta and was quickly able to secure a regular place. While at the end of his first season a midfield position was reached, the Simmeringer had to start the second division in the following year as bottom of the table. Szoldatics initially stayed with the club, but switched to the reigning champions SK Admira Wien during the winter break of 1928/29 .

There he formed the defensive pair of Jedleseer with Anton Janda and achieved the runner-up title three times in a row. In the championship season 1931/32 , however, he was ousted from the regular formation by Robert Pavlicek and was only used occasionally as a right wing runner, including in the final of the ÖFB Cup in 1932, where the Vienna AC was beaten 6-1. After another season as a squad supplement player, Szoldatics left the club and accepted an offer from the French Division 2 . There he competed for Le Havre AC , where his compatriots Karl Adamek and Viktor Spechtl also earned their money. In his two seasons in Normandy , the club did not get beyond places in the lower midfield.

In 1935, the defender returned to Vienna and initially worked briefly for the lower-class company team SC Del-Ka Vienna of the shoe manufacturer of the same name, before rejoining his home club from Simmering, which still played in the second division. In 1937 the championship title was achieved in the second class north, and then the Simmeringer won the promotion tournament clearly against the rivals SC Helfort Vienna and SK Sturm Graz . After only one season in the top class, the club had to be relegated with just five points.

After the outbreak of World War II he was drafted as a soldier, where he lost a leg.

National team

Szoldatics made his debut in the national team in September 1927, when he formed the defense together with Josef Blum in a 5-3 defeat in Budapest . His appearances in the national team remained sporadic, however, and he made his fourth and last game alongside Roman Schramseis in February 1931 against Italy as part of the Nations Cup , which the Austrians were ultimately to finish victoriously. During his time in France, Szoldatics was also used in the Normandy regional selection.
