Viktor Spechtl (born June 6, 1906 , † 1977 in Cazères , southern France) was an Austrian football player who won the Mitropacup with FK Austria Wien in 1933 .

Club career

Spechtl's parent club was the lower class Helios XX , from where he switched to the Wiener Turf Sportfreunde . The Lawn Sportfreunde were among the strongest amateur teams in Vienna and Spechtl soon made a name for himself as a striker, so that in 1930 he made three appearances in the amateur national team , where he also scored three goals in the European Cup .

In the same year, the lawn sport friends qualified for the final games for the amateur championship title , but Spechtl no longer took part in these games because he had recently switched to the professional player camp and had signed a contract with Austria. With the Violets he had a regular place from the start on the left connector position, where he played between Matthias Sindelar and Rudolf Viertl . Spechtl was able to place himself among the top ten goalscorers in the league twice in a row, but the club did not get beyond places in the midfield of the table. In 1933, however, Austria reached the final in the ÖFB Cup , where the Brigittenauer AC was defeated 1-0 by a long shot by Spechtl.

With this title, the club was also qualified for the Mitropacup, where they reached the final against AS Ambrosiana Inter Milan through victories over Slavia Prague and Juventus Turin . In the first leg, the Italians led 2-0 when Spechtl still scored the next goal. This goal turned out to be extremely important, as Austria won the home game with three goals from Sindelar 3-1 and thus won their first major international title. Despite his success at club level, Spechtl was never called up to the A national team , he only had two appearances each for the B team and the Viennese city selection.

In autumn 1934, the former Austria player Karl Adamek returned from Le Havre AC to Vienna for family reasons and the two clubs agreed on a player swap, which led Viktor Spechtl to the French second division side , where he played together with his compatriot Karl Szoldatics . At the end of the season, the striker switched to league competitor RC Lens , where he played alongside the Polish-born German Stefan Dembicki in the storm row and was able to celebrate promotion to the top division with the club in 1937, with Spechtl also winning the title of top scorer with 30 goals got. In Division 1 , the northern French were able to secure relegation before they could assert themselves in seventh place under coach József Eisenhoffer in the 1938/39 season , with Spechtl being the club's best scorer with 14 goals. After this season he left the club and ended his professional career at AS Saint-Étienne , where he was active until 1942. He then played for US Cazères and US Rieux-Volvestre in the amateur field.
