Karl Theodor Paulke

Karl Theodor Paulke (born October 16, 1881 in Bentschen ; † November 22, 1938 in Hamburg ) was a German musician and an important music historian of the 20th century. He is considered the founder of Roemhildt research ( Johann Theodor Roemhildt ).

Life

After studying in Poznan and Berlin, Paulke became cantor at St. Nicolai in 1907 and singing teacher at the grammar school in Luckau (Lausitz), moved to Meiningen in 1911 as a singing teacher at the Realgymnasium and Oberlyceum , where he was appointed court cantor in 1914 and ducal church music director in 1915. In 1923 he became cantor at St. Georg in Hamburg , in 1925 director of the Hamburg State Church Choir, and in 1927 director of the Hamburg State Singing School. The baroque composer Johann Theodor Roemhildt was one of his main areas of research . Among other things, he edited an arrangement of the St. Matthew Passion by Römhildt.
