Karl Theodor Weigel

Karl Theodor Weigel (born June 3, 1892 in Ohrdruf ; † December 15, 1953 in Detmold ) was a German researcher of symbols .

Life

He was the son of the medical councilor Otto Weigel from Ohrdruf in Thuringia and began training as an architect at the construction school in Suhl after graduating from high school . His interest in symbols and runes was aroused at an early stage, which soon made him open to the ideas of National Socialism . In 1930 he became a newspaper editor in Bad Harzburg . In 1934 he published one of his main works under the title Lebendige Vorzeit right and left of the country road . Later he took over the management of the main office for symbol research in Horn-Bad Meinberg . At the Externsteine ​​he led groups of senior SS and Wehrmacht members at regular intervals. The main office for symbol research was relocated to Göttingen in 1943 and merged with the central office for rune research there under the direction of Wolfgang Krause . In the course of this transfer to the Research Association of German Ahnenerbe , the institution was named after the merger as a teaching and research center for rune and symbolism of the SS Ahnenerbes , where Weigel worked as a department head for symbolism.

Weigel became a member of the NSDAP ( No. 587,696) and an SS member (No. 273,759). He was part of the personal staff of the SS-Reichsführer and was promoted to SS-Obersturmbannführer on September 10, 1939 immediately after the start of the Second World War .

In April 1945 Weigel was arrested in Göttingen and interned for two years. He died on December 15, 1953 as a freelancer for the Lippische Landeszeitung in Detmold of a serious illness.
