Karl Walcker
Karl Adolf Theodor Walcker (born April 13, 1839 in Pernau , Livonia , † January 21, 1909 in Leipzig ) was a German political scientist and economist.
Career
Walcker studied medicine for a year in Dorpat and Berlin from 1857 to 1863 and then switched to economics. From 1867 he taught economics as a private lecturer in Dorpat, and from 1869 to 1870 finance in Kharkov . After that, he stopped his academic work for health reasons, but after stints in Narva , Berlin, Tübingen and Karlsruhe, he was finally back in Leipzig in 1877 as a private lecturer in political science. Since 1892 he gave no more lectures due to illness, but continued to occupy himself with scientific studies. He published numerous books, including a five-volume "Handbuch der Nationalökonomie" (1882-1884), which appeared in several editions.
