Karl Wilhelm Wehner (born December 5, 1875 in Alt Weisbach , † June 9, 1957 in Mannheim ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Karl Wehner was born the son of a small farmer and line weaver. After graduating from primary school in 1890, he began an apprenticeship as a blacksmith and file cutter in Alt Weißbach, which he completed in 1893 with the journeyman's examination. Initially active in Silesia , he worked as a blacksmith, locksmith and fitter in Mannheim from 1898 and joined the German Metalworkers' Association in 1900 . Wehner joined the SPD in 1901. He attended the trade school there from 1904 to 1907.

From 1913 to 1919 he was a member of the district council in the Mannheim district and from 1919 to 1922 city ​​councilor in Mannheim. From 1915 to 1933 he also served as a board member and part-time secretary of the free religious community in Mannheim.

During the November Revolution and then until 1919, Wehner was a member of the People's Committee and Secretary of the Mannheim Workers 'and Soldiers' Council as well as a member of the state headquarters of the workers 'and soldiers' councils in Baden . In October 1919 he was employed by the State Prize Office. From 1919 he was a member of the Constituent Assembly of the Republic of Baden and until 1921 and again from May 13, 1930, when he replaced the deceased MP Therese Blase , until 1933 a member of the Baden State Parliament .

During the Nazi era , Wehner was taken into " protective custody " for three months in 1933 .
