Karl Weiß (pedagogue)

Karl Weiß (born June 22, 1895 in Weimar ; † July 27, 1959 in Brittany ) was the headmaster of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Heilbronn .

He attended elementary school and grammar school in Weimar and studied philology at the universities of Berlin, Lausanne and Jena. In Jena his studies were interrupted by the First World War, in which he took part in scenes in France. In 1920 he passed the first state examination in Jena, and in 1921 he was awarded magna cum laude Dr. phil., In 1922 the second state examination followed in Jena. He then worked as an assessor at grammar schools in Rudolstadt and Weimar, as well as at the advanced school in Eisenach . From 1924 he was a teacher at the German Advanced School in Weimar, where he taught German, French and English. At the same time he was still working at a women's high school founded by his father.

In the Second World War he took part as a reserve officer and most recently as a major and battalion commander in scenes in France. His son from his first marriage died on the Eastern Front. Weiß was taken prisoner of war in Lorraine on November 15, 1944, from which he was released in autumn 1945.

After the Second World War, from 1946 to 1951, he was initially employed as senior teacher at the Parler-Gymnasium in Schwäbisch Gmünd , before he was appointed senior director and headmaster of the Heilbronn Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium on August 1, 1951, the historic building of which was attacked during the air raid Heilbronn had been destroyed and was housed in the building of the Robert-Mayer-Gymnasium for most of Weiss' term of office until a new building was completed. When the new building of the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium was opened on March 29, 1958, White was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit by Federal President Theodor Heuss .

He died unexpectedly on a summer vacation in Brittany and was buried on July 31, 1959 in Heilbronn in the presence of Theodor Heuss.
