Karl Ziegler (painter)
Karl Ziegler (* 1866 in Schäßburg , Transylvania , † 1945 in Königsberg ) was a German painter.
Karl Ziegler spent his youth in Arkeden , where his father held the post of Lutheran pastor from 1877.
He attended the Lyceum in Schäßburg, where Ludwig Schuller, who came from Carinthia, taught drawing.
The Lutheran Bishop Georg Daniel Teutsch donated a scholarship that enabled him to study at the Royal Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin .
After completing his studies, Ziegler worked on the Panorama by Árpád Feszty in Budapest . Then, thanks to a scholarship, he studied in Berlin for two years in Anton von Werner's master class .
In 1897, Ziegler was appointed professor and set up his own studio in the center of Berlin. He mainly dealt with portrait painting.
Ziegler showed his works in numerous exhibitions in Berlin , Venice , Paris and later also overseas, St. Louis and Pittsburgh . His works brought the artist several awards.
In 1904 Ziegler got the post of professor and curator at the newly founded Kaiser Friedrich Museum in Poznan .
Until the First World War, Ziegler visited Transylvania and participated in exhibitions at the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu in 1887, 1888, 1889, 1890 and 1905.
After the First World War he lived temporarily near Wannsee and in 1921 he accepted the post of professor at the Art Academy in Königsberg .
In autumn 1926 an exhibition of drawings and sketches by the artist took place in Kronstadt . After a criticism from Heinrich Zillich , the editor of “Klingsor”, Karl Ziegler decided not to make any further visits.
