Karl Czyhlarz or Karel Čihlář , from 1878 Ritter von Czyhlarz (born August 17, 1833 in Lobositz , Northern Bohemia , † July 21, 1914 in Vienna ) was a Bohemian-Austrian lawyer and politician .

Life

Karl Czyhlarz studied law at the Charles University in Prague (doctorate in 1856, habilitation in 1858). He taught Roman law at the University of Prague from 1863 to 1892 and at the University of Vienna from 1892 to 1904 and introduced the source-critical method into the treatment of Roman law.

Czyhlarz was a member of the Bohemian Landtag (1866–1886) and from 1895 a member of the Herrenhaus , the upper house of the Austrian Imperial Council . He was awarded the Iron Crown Order 3rd class on January 1, 1878 with a diploma from August 2, 1878 to the Austrian knighthood .

Czyhlarz was a member of the Prague University Choir "Barden" (now in Munich), the home corporation of Charles University, of which he was rector in 1876.
