Friedrich Franz Karl Dietrich von Gemmingen (born February 16, 1804 in Stuttgart , † June 13, 1885 ibid) was chief magistrate in Gaildorf and Heilbronn . Due to his citizen-friendly disposition and his beneficial work as a judge , he was made the fourth honorary citizen of Heilbronn in 1866 .

Life

He came from the 2nd sub-branch (Stuttgart) of the Guttenberg / Fürfeld branch of the family of the Barons of Gemmingen -Guttenberg and was the son of Karl Ludwig Dietrich von Gemmingen (1772-1825) and Henriette von Berlichingen (1782-1862). He attended the upper secondary school in Stuttgart. There he stayed with Philipp Safe with Christian Gottlieb Hölder . In 1821 he moved to Tuebingen to study with Sicherheitser and remained connected to it later. He completed his studies in Heidelberg. After his service exams, he became a court actuary in Besigheim in 1827 . In 1828/29 he went on an extensive scientific trip to France, Belgium and Denmark. In 1835 he was a court actuary in Esslingen. In 1839 he was appointed chief magistrate in Gaildorf , and in 1840 chief magistrate there. In 1850 he moved to Heilbronn as chief magistrate. There he belonged to the Gräßle Society founded by his college friend Safe . In 1862 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Friedrich Order . In 1866 he retired. In the same year he was made an honorary citizen of Heilbronn. He spent his retirement in Stuttgart, where he died in 1885.

In addition to his work as a magistrate, he is remembered primarily for foundations in Fürfeld , the headquarters of his family line. In 1847 he donated 1000 guilders there to support the poor and 250 guilders for the issue of Bibles, in 1857 he donated 50 guilders to the industrial school. Together with his brother Franz (1809–1882) and his cousin Ernst von Gemmingen (1816–1876), who worked in Kirchheim, he donated a glass painting for the choir window, a silver communion jug and a wire grating to protect the Evangelical Church in Fürfeld , built in 1871/73 Glass window.

From 1835 he was married to Beatrix von Fahnenberg (1812–1898). Of six children they shared, only their daughter Henriette and sons Alexander and Alfred reached adulthood. Alfred died of a heart condition at the age of 20.
