Karlheinz Kleinstück (born December 29, 1929 in Kleinwolmsdorf ) is a German metal and X-ray physicist and university professor who performed in physical material and structural analysis using X-rays and neutron diffraction.

life and work

From 1948 to 1953 Karlheinz Kleinstück studied physics at the Technical University of Dresden . In 1961 he received his doctorate as Dr. rer. nat. with the "construction of an apparatus and first applications for structural investigation by means of neutron scattering ". From 1955 to 1968 he was a lecturer for structural investigations by means of X-rays at the Technical University of Dresden and head of the research area for neutron diffraction at the Central Institute for Nuclear Research Rossendorf (ZfK) of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR . In 1968 he was appointed full professor for experimental physics at the TU Dresden and worked from 1974 until his retirement in 1991 as head of the metal and X-ray physics department. After the death of Gustav Ernst Robert Schulze, together with Peter Paufler and Winfried Blau , he cultivated his scientific legacy and expanded it in the field of metal physics, especially in the disciplines of crystallography and plasticity of intermetallic compounds as well as the determination of the electronic structure of technologically important materials for microelectronics and high-temperature superconductivity, especially its magnetic properties.

He was significantly involved in the development, transfer and application of an X-ray sensor for process control in the Mansfeld combine , for which he was awarded the National Prize III. Class for science and technology in the collective was honored. From 1969 to 1972 he was also the scientific, scientific organizational initiator and sponsor of the large research and education association "Automated Information Processing" of the Robotron Dresden combine with the TU Dresden and other Dresden universities.

From 1959 until her death in 1980, Karlheinz Kleinstück was with the physicist Eva Kleinstück, b. Simon married. Since 1996 he has been with Charlotte Kleinstück, geb. Hübner married.

Scientific results

  • Creation of the experimental basis for the application of the scattering of thermal neutrons for structure elucidation at the ZfK Rossendorf and multivalent use of the method by scientists from national and international research institutions to gain knowledge about the structure and application properties of solids.
  • Theoretical and methodological basics for the first international use of neutron diffraction for texture analysis at the ZfK Rossendorf. The experimental technique for this method was developed together with J. Tobisch, HJ Bunge and M. Betzel. B. tested on sheet iron. This contributed to the elucidation of the formation and influence of rolling textures, especially for electrical steel .
  • Together with Gustav Ernst Robert Schulze and D. Sippel, pendulum solution interference with thermal neutrons on silicon single crystals was detected and interpreted.
