Karlheinz Schöner (born April 30, 1951 in Homburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2008 to 2014 he was Lord Mayor of the district and university town of Homburg.

education and profession

Karlheinz Schöner was employed as a civil servant in the federal tax administration from 1970 to 2002 and was mainly employed at the customs office in the fight against international and organized crime. In addition to studying law, he completed his studies with a degree in finance and was qualified as a tax advisor . On July 1, 2002, he was appointed full-time 1st alderman and head of department for construction and real estate. In 2005 he was elected mayor and permanent representative of the mayor of the district and university town of Homburg. Since the summer of 2007 he took over the post of mayor on a provisional basis. After the result of the primary election on January 13, 2008, he was appointed Mayor of the district and university town of Homburg on January 14, 2008.

Karlheinz Schöner joined the Junge Union in Homburg in 1967 and the CDU Homburg-Kirrberg in 1971. From 2002 to 2007 he was chairman of the CDU Homburg. From 1984 to 2002 he was a member of the local council in Kirrberg (Saar) for the CDU parliamentary group; from 1994 to 1999 additionally deputy mayor and parliamentary group spokesman and from 1999 to the end of 2002 additionally mayor. During the same period he was also a member of Homburg's city council. After Lord Mayor Joachim Rippel was appointed Minister of Economics and Science in Saarland on September 3, 2007, Schöner moved to the top of the city administration as mayor by virtue of his office. On January 13, 2008, he ran for the office of Lord Mayor. He was able to prevail in the primary election in the first ballot with 51.5 percent of the votes against Astrid Klug (SPD) and Georg Weisweiler (FDP). During his tenure as Lord Mayor, Schöner succeeded in bringing the Robert Bosch GmbH logistics center to Homburg. Construction work was also carried out to further develop the city center. Schöne decided not to run for the election of the Lord Mayor of Homburg on May 25, 2014. The term of office as Lord Mayor ended on October 1, 2014. His successor in office is Rüdiger Schneidewind (SPD), who emerged from the runoff election on June 8, 2014 as the winner.

Karlheinz Schöner is a member of the administrative board of the Kreissparkasse Saarpfalz , elected chairman of the supervisory board of the Homburg heating power plant and the board of directors of the municipal insurance association.

After Schöner had been suspected of having committed embezzlement and fraud since May 2018, the public prosecutor's office before the Saarbrücken regional court brought an action against Schöner on suspicion of infidelity and fraud in six cases. After nine days of trial, Schöner was sentenced to 15 months' imprisonment, suspended on probation, in April 2019 for infidelity and taking advantage.

Karlheinz Schöner is Catholic. He is married and has two grown daughters.
