Georg Weisweiler

Georg Weisweiler (born April 24, 1946 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( FDP ). From November 2009 to January 2012 he was Minister for Health and Consumer Protection of the Saarland .

Life

Georg Weisweiler studied law and economics in Kiel and Saarbrücken . He is a lawyer and auditor . From 1983 to 1997 he was a member of the management of Gerlach-Werke (now ThyssenKrupp Gerlach ) in Homburg . From 1997 to 2005 he was a member of the group management of Mahle GmbH in Stuttgart and from 2001 to 2005 its labor director.

Since 2006, he has been Vice President of the Association of Saarland Business Associations (VSU). Since 2006 he has been honorary president of the Association of the Metal and Electrical Industry of the Saarland (ME Saar) and a member of the board of Gesamtmetall (umbrella association of employers' associations in the metal and electrical industry) in Berlin.

After his state political engagement, Weisweiler began to get involved in Homburg local politics. For example, he founded a citizens' initiative to campaign for sustainable inner-city development in his hometown and later helped found an aid association for refugees and those in need.

Political party

Georg Weisweiler was a member of the CDU until 2006 . In 2006 he joined the FDP. In 2008 he was candidate for mayor in Homburg and received 7.2% of the vote. After Christoph Hartmann's resignation as regional chairman of the FDP Saar, he was one of the candidates for the office of chairman together with the Bundestag member Oliver Luksic . The election took place on January 8, 2011. Weisweiler was clearly defeated by Luksic.

In October 2013, Weisweiler, together with several citizens from Homburg, founded the voter association Allianz der Vernunft , with which he ran for local elections. As part of this commitment, Weisweiler has been suspending his membership in the FDP since February 2014.

Political offices

Weisweiler was elected to the Saarland state parliament in the state elections in 2009 . On November 10, 2009, Georg Weisweiler was sworn in as Minister for Health and Consumer Protection in the Jamaica coalition in the Müller III cabinet and resigned from the state parliament. Christian Schmitt moved up for him .

After the failure of the coalition government made up of the CDU, FDP and Greens in January 2012, Weisweiler was dismissed from his office on January 18, 2012, along with all other ministers from the FDP and Greens. The Minister of Social Affairs Monika Bachmann (CDU) took over the management of the Ministry of Health and Consumer Protection .

Since May 2014 he has been a member of the Homburg city council for the voter association Allianz der Vernunft, which he co-founded .

Personal

Georg Weisweiler is married, has three daughters and lives in Homburg.
