Karlheinz Summerer

Karlheinz Summerer (born March 1, 1934 in Munich ; † February 25, 2013 there ) was a German pastor .

Summerer graduated from the Theresiengymnasium in Munich and studied at the philosophical-theological college in Freising . He was ordained priest on June 29, 1959 and subsequently worked as a chaplain in Miesbach and Landshut . He was then from 1964 to 1970 diocesan youth pastor of the male youth, before he himself became pastor in 1970 at the Church of Peace of Christ in the Munich Olympic Center , which he remained until his retirement in 2003. There he had the order with the congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Olympic Church to develop the first ecumenical church center in Bavaria . From 1968 to 1998 he was a spiritual adviser to the DJK Diocesan Association and from 1976 to 1990 he was a deputy spiritual adviser to the DJK Federal Association.

During the 1972 Summer Olympics , Summerer was the contact person and pastor of the German athletes and was also involved in the hostage-taking of the Israeli team. a. the commemoration took place in his church. In the following years, Summerer traveled with the German athletes to the Winter Olympics, most recently to Lillehammer in 1992 .

From 1973 to 2003 Summerer was the representative for church and sport in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and for all of Bavaria. In 1986 he was appointed Spiritual Councilor by Friedrich Cardinal Wetter and in 1999 by John Paul II as Papal Honorary Prelate .

Summerer was buried at the North Cemetery in Munich .
