Terzo Bandini (* 1898 in Forlì ; † 1974 ) was an Italian motorcycle racer .

Career

Terzo Bandini began motorcycling in 1923 when he finished third behind winner Amedeo Ruggeri in his first race at the Circuito del Savio . In the same year he took third place behind Tazio Nuvolari on an old 1000 cm³ Harley-Davidson in the Giro dell'Emilia .

In 1924, Bandini won the Circuito della Spezia , a little later he had a traffic accident with Luigi Arcangeli that forced him to stop racing for two years. Terzo Bandini was able to compete again in 1926 and in the following years celebrated a number of victories with Bianchi , AJS Calthorpe , Norton and Saroléa . For the 1928 season he was engaged by Ugo Velandini, the Italian AJS importer , to compete in the Italian motorcycle road championship . Bandini won two of the five championship races and was runner-up behind Amilcare Moretti in the 350 cc class.

In the following year, Terzo Bandini switched to a 500 cc Rudge, with which he finished the half-liter class of the Italian Championship behind Mario Colombo in second place, ex-aequo with Achille Varzi . In 1930, Bandini won his first title on the Rudge in front of Varzi in the 500 cc class of the Italian road championship. He won four of the ten rated races: in Stradella , the Circuito del Lario race on Lake Como at the Gran Premio Reale in Rome and at the Campi Flegrei in Naples .

In the 1931 season, Bandini won races in Florence, Rome, Padua, his hometown Forlì, was overall winner at the Circuito del Lario and was the first Italian to win the Swiss Grand Prix in Bremgarten . He also defended his title in the Italian 500cc Championship. The following year Terzo Bandini won the Italian half-liter championship on Miller Balsamo for the third time in a row and won the XVI on 250 cc Moto Guzzi . Grands Prix de France in Montlhéry .

In 1933, Bandini, together with Aldo Pigorini and Giordano Aldrighetti on Bianchi, was third in the trophy classification of the 15th International Six-Day Race in Llandrindod Wells ( Wales ). In the same year he became a works driver at Moto Guzzi in Mandello del Lario . Bandini started alongside Omobono Tenni , Guglielmo Sandri and Amilcare Moretti in the classes up to 250 and 500 cm³. In his debut race for the team, the Italian set the fastest race lap at the Italian Grand Prix on the Pista del Littorio in Rome. In 1934 Terzo Bandini won the 500 cc class on a Guzzi at the Coppa Mussolini , which ran non-stop from Milan to Naples . Three years later he won the team category again in the race that was now called Milano – Taranto and led over 1283 km from Milan to Taranto .

Terzo Bandini then retired from all racing activities and opened a Moto Guzzi store in Ravenna , which he ran until his death in 1974. Today the Moto Club Terzo Bandini exists in his hometown of Forlì , where Andrea Dovizioso started his career.
