Karma Nirvana is a British charity founded in 1993 by Jasvinder Sanghera CBE .

First and foremost, Karma Nirvana offers help to victims of domestic violence and forced marriage . It also operates a national helpline. In addition, the members of the association hold lectures at the University of Derby in order to raise awareness of the topic for future teachers during their training.

The organization is headquartered in Leeds , West Yorkshire and was founded by lawyer Jasvinder Sanghera, who herself was a victim of forced marriage. She knew that victims often do not seek help due to language barriers and wanted to set an example by founding the company. The aim was to fully educate the public about these practices. The organization has continued to develop since it was founded. Initially, the organization was only known rural, but over time its popularity changed after numerous media reported about the organization. In 2015, 250 cases of acts of violence “for the sake of honor” or forced marriages were reported to the association every month.

Karma Nirvana led together with Cosmopolitan UK a project that the establishment of a memorial day ( day of memory of the victims of so-called honor killing ( Britain's Lost Women had) to the destination. The project was developed by British politicians such as former Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and the shadow -Inner Minister (Schadow Home Secretary) Yvette Cooper supports Since 2014 Karma Nirvana has been celebrating this day on July 14th.

The work of the organization was accompanied by a documentary in 2015 on Vox Pop , a news and information program on the Arte broadcaster .
