Karoline Otto-Thate , née Karoline Christiane Thate , also Caroline Otto-Thate , (born March 1, 1822 or 1826 in Braunschweig , † March 19, 1897 in Stuttgart ) was a German theater actress .

Life

From an early age, the daughter of a master saddler enjoyed the lessons of her uncle, the actor Friedrich Lemke in Bremen. She was a docile student and after only three months of lessons she appeared in the title role in Theodor Körner's "Toni" in Bremen and was immediately engaged in the field of young lovers.

After barely a year there, she made her debut in 1843 as "Marie" in "Muttersegen" and "Walpurgis" in "Goldschmieds Töchterlein" at the court theater in Braunschweig. Although she liked, she did not join the association of this stage for the time being, but first took up engagements in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Elberfeld, where she found a larger sphere of activity as the first tragic and lively lover.

From 1846 to 1851 she worked at the Hoftheater Kassel, from 1851 to 1852 she made guest appearances in Braunschweig and from November 1, 1852 she was permanently engaged there and stayed there until 1879.

Since the death of her husband in 1885, the editor-in-chief of the Deutsche Reichs-Zeitung Reinhard Otto , with whom she had been married since June 12, 1859 and who was first married to Auguste Wernthal , she lived with her foster son, the court actor Egmont Richter in Stuttgart, where she also died.
