Karoline Schulz

Karoline Schulz (* 1973 in Dresden ) is a German flautist and composer .

Life

In 1991, Karoline Schulz won first prize at the first all-German competition Jugend musiziert and was a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra . From 1992 she studied flute, composition and improvisation at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden and the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . Her teachers included the composers Jörg Herchet , Friedrich Schenker and Lothar Voigtländer as well as the flautists Irmela Boßler and Eckart Haupt . She wrote her diploma thesis on the Romanian composer Doina Rotaru and the influences of folk music on contemporary music in Romania.

From 2004 to 2005 she was a scholarship holder of the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) and the European Center for the Arts Hellerau . In 2006 she took part in the 4th International Composition Forum of Ensemble Aleph , which included performances of her works in Amsterdam (International Gaudeamus Music Week), Salzburg and Paris. She played at the Festival for Experimental Music in Munich, in the German Pavilion at EXPO 2000 and the "new music marathon" in Prague.

In addition to new music , she also devotes herself as a musician to new improvisational music . She played in ensembles with, among others, Chris Weinheimer , Jens Brülls and the Saxon Improvisation Ensemble . She is a member of the Neue Dresdner Kammermusik and the Sinfonietta Dresden . She has been leading the Halle composer class since 2007 .

Karoline Schulz lives as a freelance composer and musician in Dresden.
