The Kasari River (Estonian Kasari jõgi ) is the most water-rich river in western Estonia . Its length is 112 km.

The river has its source near Kohila in Rapla County . It flows into Matsalu Bay in Lääne County . The river often overflows its banks, especially in the upper reaches.

Its average flow rate is 23 to 28 m³ / second, its catchment area 3210 km². The river is known for its abundance of fish (especially pike ).

Surname

The name of the river (and of the Kasari estate of the same name ) is derived from Kasari (Kasjan) Baranoff († 1648). Baranoff was a Tatar military leader who defected to the Swedish troops. King John III gave him the lands of the area in 1590.

Below the village of Kasari , a 308 m long reinforced concrete bridge was built in 1904 , which was the longest in the world when it was inaugurated.
