Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus was a project by music producers Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz , which was initially put together for a one-off concert in 1968. Due to the great success, records were then also produced under this name.

Jerry Kasenetz and Jeff Katz are considered to be the "inventors" of bubblegum , a happy subspecies of pop music that is characterized by simple rhythms, banal lyrics and simple but catchy melodies. As producers, the two were responsible for hits and million-dollar sellers such as "Simple Simon Says" ( 1910 Fruitgum Company ) or "Yummy Yummy" ( Ohio Express ). These groups were primarily studio groups with studio singers. But if the song was successful, a band had to be quickly put together for tours.

In 1968, Kasenetz and Katz signed all the bands with whom they produced their Bubblegum sound for a big concert. This took place in Carnegie Hall in New York City with 64 members of all bands under the name Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus . In addition to musicians from the 1910 Fruitgum Company and Ohio Express, The Music Explosion , Lieutenant's Garcia's Magic Music Box , JCW Rat Finks , 1969 Musical Marching Zoo , St. Louis Invisible Band and Teri Nelson Group were also involved.

The single "Quick Joey Small" then reached number 25 in the US charts and even number 19 in Great Britain.
