The place Kasilof is located on the lower reaches of the Kasilof River in Alaska and is a census-designated place .

history

The Russian chairman of the Lebendef-Lastochkin-Handelsgesellschaft, Kolomin, had the first wooden huts built on the lower reaches of the Kasilof River in 1786. When naming this small settlement, he was probably inspired by a ship belonging to the trading company and named the place "Saint George". After the settlement was established, the local indigenous people of the Dena'ina settled nearby.

In the eighteenth century the place was finally renamed Kasilof, after the river of the same name that flows through it. In 1937 some well-preserved remains of the original settlement were found during an excavation.

The inhabitants of the place live from fishing and tourism today.

There is a tarmac near the village and the Sterling Highway runs through Kasilof .
