Kaspar Anton Rettler

Kaspar Anton Rettler (* 6. May 1805 in Untervalme ; † 22. October 1871 in Roermond , The Netherlands ) was a German organ builder and Redemptorists - monk .

Live and act

Kaspar Anton Rettler was born on May 6, 1805 in the North Rhine-Westphalian village of Untervalme (parish Bödefeld ). He completed an apprenticeship with the well-known Trier organ builder Breidenfeld .

After his apprenticeship, Rettler moved to the Dutch province of Limburg and was accepted as a candidate by the Redemptorists in Wittem on March 31, 1842 . On August 15, 1846, he took his religious vows there. Rettler built six new organs in various Redemptorist monasteries in Belgium and the Netherlands. He died in Roermond on October 22, 1871.

Preserved works

One of the two surviving Rettler organs is in Sint-Truiden , Belgium . The instrument, built between 1842 and 1844, is located in the Minderbroederskerk and was restored in 2006 by Filip Nijs from Nieuwerkerken . Rettler built it for the former Redemptorist monastery "Klosterkerk Sint-Franciscus van Solana". The instrument is eight meters high, five meters wide and two and a half meters deep.

Another Rettler organ is located in Amsterdam in the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwe church , the former Redemptorist church Onbevlekt Hart van Maria . It is known under the name "Rettlar Maarschalkerweerd Organ". The instrument was built in 1859 by Kaspar Anton Rettler and later restored and adapted by Michael Maarschalkerweerd (Utrecht).
