Kaspar Denich (also Caspar Denich ; * 1591 in Ingolstadt ; † January 2, 1660 ibid) was a German legal scholar and university professor.

Life

Kaspar Denich was born in Ingolstadt in 1591 as the son of law professors Joachim and Maria Denich (née Lagus) . His maternal grandfather was the legal scholar Caspar Lagus , a younger brother was the Regensburg auxiliary bishop Sebastian Denich .

In 1612 Kaspar Denich received his doctorate in law. Studies in Italy followed. In 1614 he finally became an associate professor at the University of Ingolstadt and in 1616 a full professor . Around 1618 he took in the talented but penniless Johann Adlzreiter von Tettenweis as a trainee and made it possible for him to complete his legal studies.

1620 Denich took over the office of the university treasurer . From 1623 he was appointed full professor for institutional studies . From 1624 he taught the Pandects and in 1634 took over a professorship for canon law . The Rector held Kaspar Denich 1643 and 1650. From 1644 he was relieved of some university duties due to his poor health and focused until his retirement in 1655 entirely on teaching.

Kaspar Denich spoke out vehemently against the practice of witch trials .
