Kaspar Honegger

Kaspar Honegger (born July 9, 1820 in Wald ; † August 25, 1892 there ) was a Swiss entrepreneur .

Life

Kaspar Honegger was born on July 9, 1820 as the son of the nail smith Ludwig Honegger in Wald. Honegger grew up in poor conditions and at the age of seven had to contribute to his family's livelihood as a factory worker. After training as a locksmith and two years of wandering with a stay in Vienna , Honegger ran a nail forge with his father and brother Johannes in the hamlet of Dändler in the municipality of Wald on his return . In 1853 he and his brother set up the Hub cotton weaving mill in Wald. In 1860 this weaving mill was destroyed by fire. He continued his business a year later by founding the Neutal weaving mill in Wald, a company with 90 looms . In 1888 Honegger bought the Elba spinning mill in Wald with 10,000 spindles . Honegger was one of the industrial pioneers who ensured that Wald became the "Little Manchester" of the Canton of Zurich in the second half of the 19th century .

Kaspar Honegger, who married his wife Barbara in 1847, died on August 25, 1892 at the age of 72 in Wald.
