Kaspar Kittel

Kaspar Kittel (* 1603 in Lauenstein ; † October 9, 1639 in Dresden ) was a German musician and composer.

Kittel was the oldest demonstrable representative of the well-known family of musicians; his younger brother Jonas was a bass player ; his son Christoph u. a. Lutenist and his grandson Johann Heinrich organist . They were all members of the court orchestra at the Dresden court.

On September 23, 1616, Kittel was accepted into the Dresden court orchestra and received training as a theorbist as a student of Heinrich Schütz . With the support of Elector Johann Georg , Kittel was able to travel to Venice in 1624 and study singing and theorbo with various teachers. In 1629 he returned to Dresden and led a. a. the monodic style of composing by Giulio Caccini at court. became electoral chamber musician as a theorbist.

In 1630 he became Matthias Weckmann's singing teacher and taught his brother Jonas Weckmann how to play. In 1632 he got a job as instrument inspector, later as court organist and in 1638 he represented Heinrich Schütz in the management of the court orchestra.
