Life
Kaspar Grossmann was born the son of a Zurich councilor. From 1515 he studied in Basel , where he obtained his master's degree in 1518 . As a chaplain at the Zurich hospital, he married the housekeeper Regula Offenhusser in 1524 and became a hospital preacher at the Grossmünster .
In the disputation from November 6 to 8, 1525 he appeared as a staunch supporter of Ulrich Zwingli and defended his theses against the Anabaptists . From now on he worked on the Zurich Bible and negotiated with the Anabaptists. Also impressive are its occurrence in was Bernese disputation 1528. Then he invoked the Bernese as a preacher and professor of theology. He was often heated in negotiations and acted unwise, which in 1531 led to his dismissal from the ministry. On the mediation of Wolfgang Capito he was reinstated in 1532 worked with Heinrich Bullinger , Leo Jud , Simon Grynäus , Oswald Myconius , Martin Bucer and Wolfgang Capito from the Confessio Helvetica prior from 1536.
When Berchtold Haller aged, Megander came to the fore. In his church work he followed the Zurich model. He was successful in disputations. In the Lausanne disputation in 1537 he enforced the church constitution he had drafted. On the question of the Wittenberg Agreement he was Martin Bucer's sharpest opponent. In Bern the dispute was waged with great violence. Bucer knew how to achieve that Megander had to change the doctrine of the Lord's Supper in his catechism “A Brief Outline of Christian Interpretation for the Young”. He did not submit, was released and went to Zurich, where he worked at the Grossmünster in the last years of his life .
