Kaspar Vogt: Mount of Olives in the Upper Rock Chapel of St. Salvator, Schwäbisch Gmünd

Kaspar Vogt (* 1584 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ; † March 23, 1644 or 1646 there ; also Caspar Vogt ) was a German sculptor and municipal builder in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Vogt was the son of Kaspar Vogt of the same name , who also worked as a sculptor in Schwäbisch Gmünd and taught his son the stonemasonry . Vogt's son Friedrich also works as a sculptor in his hometown.

In 1608 he was appointed church builder for the city of Schwäbisch Gmünd. From the early days of his work there are mainly several relief works and tombstones, some of which can still be found today, for example in the choir of the Gmünder Minster . In 1617 he was commissioned by the city to restore the pilgrimage site of St. Salvator outside the city gates to a better condition through the inheritance of the priest Pfennigmann , who died in 1616 . He expanded the original rock chapel from around 1483, carved a second chapel out of the rock above it and built the octagonal bell tower of the pilgrimage complex. In addition, all the wayside shrines along the Way of the Cross , which complement today's chapel, as well as the relief of the Golgota group come from Vogt .

In 1618 Vogt extended the nave of the church in Mögglingen . In 1622 he was commissioned to build a new chapel, the Herrgottsruhkapelle , instead of a chapel from the 15th century . The so-called Croatian Cross, a double cross in Schwäbisch Gmünd, is also attributed to him.
