Kassa Overall (* around 1980 in Seattle ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , vocals , composition ).

Kassa Overall studied music at Oberlin College; his mentors were Billy Hart , Michael Rosen , Elvin Jones and Billy Higgins . After graduating, he moved to New York City and played with musicians such as Christian McBride , Donald Byrd , Vijay Iyer , Francis & the Lights, Mayer Hawthorne , Wallace Roney , Ravi Coltrane , Gary Bartz , Iron Solomon and Gordon Voidwell ; He was also a member of Geri Allen's Timelife Band (with which the first recordings were made in 2009) for several years and worked regularly with Theo Crokers Ensemble. Recordings were also made with Anne Drummond ( Revolving , 2012). He also worked in various hip-hop and independent rock projects. As a rapper and producer, he collaborated with the Brooklyn hip-hop project Das Racist , in the duo Kool & Kass (with Kool AD) and played on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's house band. As a soloist, Overall presented the singles Cauliflower (2014), Naked Light (2016) and Cussing at the Strip (2017); with Peter Evans and John Hébert the trio album Zebulon (More Is More Records, 2013). In 2019 he played in Stephan Crump's band Rhombal (with Ellery Eskelin and Adam O'Farrill ); he also appeared on Theo Crokers Grammy-nominated album Star People Nation . In 2020, Overall released the album I Think I'm Good (Brownswood), followed by the remix production Shades of Flu .
