Kassandra ( Greek Κασσάνδρα ) or Cassandra ( Latinized form) is a female given name .

Origin and meaning

The name originally means the seductress or the man catcher ( ~ andra from ἀνήρ, anér "the man" ').

With Homer one finds Kassandra as the daughter of Priam and Hecabe . As a punishment for not reciprocating Apollo's love, he gave her the gift of a seer, but he cursed her so that no one would believe her prophecies. So Kassandra sees the misfortune of the Trojan horse break in on Troy , but no one believes her - and so she is captured, taken as a slave to Mycenae and killed there.
