history

Like the name Rheinkassel, the name Kasselberg can be derived from the Latin castellum . Whether the origin of the place goes back that far seems rather questionable. At least the place existed in the early modern times and its inhabitants lived mainly from fishing and agriculture. After the occupation of the Rhineland by the French troops in 1794, Kasselberg came to the Mairie Worringen in the canton of Dormagen in the Arrondissement de Cologne in the Département de la Roer . In 1815 Kasselberg came to the Kingdom of Prussia . Since 1816 it belonged to the mayor's office in Worringen in the Cologne district . Kasselberg has been part of the city of Cologne since April 1, 1922. A Rhine fisherman was still living in the village of Kasselberg in 1925. A ferry to Rheindorf was operated in Kasselberg until the 1930s . On July 15, 1954, Kasselberg became part of the Fühlingen district and since October 7, 1963, the place has belonged to the Merkenich district. Kasselberg has been part of the Chorweiler district since January 1, 1975. In its history, the place was hit several times by severe floods.
