Kassian Etter

Johannes Kassian Etter OSB (born April 29, 1929 in Zug ; † April 3, 2009 in Einsiedeln ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . He became known as an actor at the Einsiedler Welttheater.

Life

Kassian Etter, son of Federal Philipp Etter , joined in 1949 the Congregation of the Benedictines at in Einsiedeln. He made his profession on September 8, 1950, and was ordained a priest on June 12, 1954 . He studied physics at the ETH Zurich and from 1960 to 1999 taught physics, mathematics and religion at the monastery school of Einsiedeln Abbey . From 1972 to 1992 he was also prefect of the boarding school.

He became known as an actor. In 2000 and 2007 he performed at the Einsiedler Welttheater in the mystery play Das große Welttheater by Pedro Calderón , which his former student Thomas Hürlimann had worked on. In addition to various leading roles, Etter was the world and later turned into death . In 2002 he played the devil in the music theater Story of the Soldier by Stravinsky and Ramuz in Munich Wiler Castle .

Father Kassian was considered very interested in sports and was active as a track and field athlete in his youth . At the 2008 Summer Olympics , he joined as a regular commentator in the evening magazine program of the Swiss television on.
