Katherine Fiona "Kate" Allenby , MBE (born March 16, 1974 in Tavistock ) is a former British pentathlete and fencer .

Career

Kate Allenby took part in the Olympics twice. In 2000 in Sydney she managed to win the bronze medal behind Stephanie Cook and Emily deRiel at the first ever Olympic women's competition . Four years later, she reached in Athens to eighth place .

She was world champion a total of four times . With the team she won the title in 2001 , 2003 and 2004 , with the relay in 2001. In the individual, second place was her best result in 2004, and she was third on the podium in 1999 and 2003, respectively. At the European Championships in 1997 in Moscow she won the individual title.

In 2004 she ended her career in modern pentathlon to focus more on fencing. In 2005 she became national champion and finally ended her career entirely in 2008. At the beginning of the year she was made a member of the Order of the British Empire .

Kate Allenby has a university degree in exercise science and a master's degree in philosophy .
