Kate Crawford

Kate Crawford is an Australian publicist, composer, producer and scientist. Crawford is a senior researcher at Microsoft Research (Social Media Collective), a visiting professor at the MIT Center for Civic Media, a senior fellow at the Information Law Institute at New York University School of Law, and an assistant professor at the University's Journalism and Media Research Center of New South Wales . She has been a researcher at the Data & Society Research Institute in New York since 2013 . Crawford conducts research on social change and media technologies, in particular on the intersection between people, mobile devices and social networks.

Life

Crawford was part of the electronic music duo B (if) tek and released three albums between 1998 and 2003. Crawford is co-founder of the Australian label Deluxe Mood Recordings.

Crawford is a writer for The Sydney Morning Herald and Foreign Policy . She is a former fellow at the Australian Think Tank Center for Policy Development. From April 19-20, 2008, she was one of 1000 Australians at the Australia 2020 Summit in Canberra .

research

Crawford lectures and publishes on the topics of social media , internet regulation , the interaction between gender and mobile internet, young people and sexting , and big data . Crawford has been a guest speaker at conferences such as the O'Reilly Strata Conference 2013 and the DataEDGE Conference 2013. Her 2006 book Adult Themes - Rewriting the Rules of Adulthood won the Manning Clark National Cultural Award.
