Katherine Allfrey
Katherine Allfrey (born August 14, 1910 in Verl as Paula Katherina Forjahn ; † December 8, 2001 in Kandern ) was a German-British children's and youth author.
Life
Katherine Allfrey worked as a saleswoman, teacher and nanny. She spent five years in Athens and then emigrated to New Zealand with her husband, an Englishman , where she began to write. In 1949 she returned to Europe and lived with her family of five near Bristol . In 1988 she returned to Germany, where she lived in Binzen from 1989 . Allfrey repeatedly deals with topics from history and mythology in her books. In 1964 she was awarded the German Youth Literature Prize for her story “Delphinensommer” .
Trivia
A street in a residential area in Verl is named after her.
