The Catholic University of Southern Sudan (Engl .: The Catholic University of South Sudan (CUofSS) ) until 2011 as the Catholic University of Sudan (ger .: Catholic University of Sudan referred to) is a nationally recognized private university in South Sudan .

history

The idea for a Catholic university in Sudan was initiated in 2003 by the Archbishop of Khartoum, Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako . In 2007, the Sudanese Bishops' Conference approved the foundation with the aim of building a leadership elite after decades of armed conflict in Sudan. The opening took place in 2008. The US-American Jesuit Michael Schultheis was won as founding president; he was the first university president of the Catholic University of Ghana .

Schultheis built a founding partnership with the Gonzaga University of the Jesuits in Spokane in the US state of Washington on as well as support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) / American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) and Msaada Architects, a non-profit Architecture office. Further partnerships with aid organizations as well as with East African, Canadian and US universities have been established - also in order to get qualified teaching staff, which has so far been one of the university's greatest challenges.

The Juba university campus is to be built permanently in the central district of Nabari. Archbishop Paulino Lukudu Loro laid the foundation stone for this on November 16, 2013.

organization

The Catholic University is supported by the Sudanese Bishops' Conference. Since 2012 there has been an affiliation with the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) in Nairobi; the first degrees were awarded in the same year.

In Juba , social and economic subjects are offered, in the provincial capital Wau since 2010 agricultural and educational sciences . An offshoot in the Sudanese capital Khartoum was initially planned, but was not implemented.
