Kathryn Hunter (* 1956 in New York City as Aikaterini Hadjipateras ) is a British actress and theater director who is best known in Great Britain .

Life

Hunter was born in New York to Greek parents and immigrated to Great Britain with her parents. After training as an actress at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art , she now lives in London with her husband Marcello Magni.

In 1991 she won an Olivier Award for best comedian in the play The Visit . Hunter then played in several films such as The Miracle of Mâcon or All or Nothing with Timothy Spall and in many television films and series such as in Rome as Charmian. In 2007, she appeared as the Dursleys' quirky neighbor, Arabella Figg, in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix .

In 2010 she played the role of Fool in a production by King Lear of the Royal Shakespeare Company at the Courtyard Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon and Cleopatra in a production by Antony and Cleopatra . In 2018 she had the title role in Simon Godwin's production of Shakespeare's play Timon of Athens in Stratford-upon-Avon .
