Simon Godwin
Simon Godwin (* 1975 ) is an English theater director and director.
Life
Simon Godwin grew up in St Albans, the oldest of four siblings. His father was a publisher and now works as a literary agent. Both brothers are in the film and television business, the sister is a curator .
Godwin first completed a degree in English literature at Cambridge . He studied acting at London's Anna Scher Theater and then founded the Stray Dogs Theater Company , for which he staged everything that ends well by William Shakespeare and Euridyce by Jean Anouilh , as well as Inkle and Yarico , an opera by Samuel Arnold , on the London Fringe was performed.
In 2001 he became Associate Director at Royal & Derngate in Northampton , where he worked with Rupert Goold . In Northampton he produced a. a. Everyman , Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett , and Half-Truths by Alan Ayckbourn . From 2005 he studied physical theater and devising at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) for two years . In 2008 he became the Associate Director of Tom Morris at Bristol Old Vic . From 2009 to 2015 he was Associate Director at the Royal Court , where he a. a. staged seven world premieres. In 2013 he made his Royal National Theater debut with Eugene O'Neill's rarely performed Strange, Interlude . His second RNT production that year was Shaw's Man and Superman with Ralph Fiennes , Indira Varna and Elliot Barnes-Worrell in the lead roles. His production of Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company , which he is settling in Africa and in which, with Paapa Essiedu, a black actor took on the role of Hamlet in a stage production for the first time in Great Britain, was also shown in May 2018 at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC .
Simon Goodwin is the designated successor to Michael Kahn , longtime artistic director of the Shakespeare Theater Company in Washington, DC
