action

Successful attorney Alicia Charles was recovering from a serious traffic accident when she ran into Will Hillinger and asked her to take on a custody battle. Will currently has custody of Linus Schawn, who lost his parents in an accident. Linus has an aunt in France whom he has never seen, but who suddenly wants sole custody.

Since Will doesn't have a dime, he turns to Alicia thinking she's taking the case on for moral reasons. Alicia is responsible for the traffic accident with Linus' parents, but she cannot remember her accident. Her partner Richard from the law firm advises her to decide against Will and in favor of the aunt, as the aunt is wealthy and could therefore take good care of Linus. However, Alicia feels obliged because she promised Linus and takes on the case for Will for the time being.

After an appraisal from the youth welfare office, which went completely wrong, Alicia learns that Linus blames himself for the death of his parents. Linus had secretly visited his love Goana, and when Goana's parents called home and said that they should pick Linus up, the accident happened. Since then, Linus has hardly dared to do anything. Meanwhile, Richard decides to take the aunt's case, which leads to a conflict between Richard and Alicia. Alicia finds out about this in the office when she speaks to the youth welfare office, which was actually on her side. After Richard intervened, the decision was made for the commission, it was for the aunt. Richard gives Alicia the choice, she decides against him and thus against the law firm that benefits financially from the aunt.

When Alicia drives back to Will, the two are practicing a performance for the school and Alicia is teaching Linus to dance. Will plays the song that Alicia heard on the radio shortly before the accident to accompany him. Alicia starts to remember. When Will learns that she wants to back down, he takes the opportunity to go to the graveyard of Linus' parents with Alicia and Linus. Linus forgives Alicia for her accident for not doing it on purpose. Alicia is invited to make up by Richard and after a massage with an in-depth conversation, they reconcile. After Alicia gave Will a new guitar, he played the radio song again at her request and she remembers. She remembers that she had an argument with Richard and went for it. Then there was an accident.

Alicia lets Will drive her to Richard and confronts him with her memory. Then she leaves him. Will invites her to Linus' house. Will and Alicia practice math with Linus with balloons and math books, which the youth welfare office assessor likes to see. Meanwhile, Richard's aunt is a client and desperately wants custody. Richard makes Alicia one last offer, which she accepts, betraying Will. She gives him a photo album that documents the chaotic everyday life. Will listens, however, and Linus confronts Alicia about it, but doesn't really believe in it himself.

After a heated discussion in the courtroom, custody goes to Will because Alicia tricked Richard with the photo book. However, Alicia is officially appointed as Linus's lawyer and asset manager and will see Will and Linus again regularly.

criticism

Tittelbach writes of a clichéd film that follows well-known patterns. One would, however, wish for a slightly less bipolar character, but more small playful details such as the semantics of the shoes or the unfamiliar child-adult interaction.

On the whole, it is a successful film adaptation. Quote: “But because the surface is right - good look, smooth course of action, harmonious figures of sympathy, lively locations - the everyday dramaturgy is hardly noticeable unpleasantly while watching. Doubts only come afterwards. "
