Prehistory and foundation

In June 1859, trade and bank employees in the city of Bern founded the “Alpenrösli” association , the purpose of which, according to protocols, was “sociability and fine arts”. In addition, there was another "Alpenrösli" association in Neuchâtel for German-speaking Swiss merchants who were learning French in Neuchâtel. Twelve active and two passive members made up the Bern Association at that time. Only commercial officials and employees were admitted as members; A written application for admission, three subsequent visits to meetings and admission work with essays on trade were the prerequisites for participation in the association. In 1861, according to the minutes, the first discussions about changing the name of the association took place. In the meeting of March 3, 1861, the agenda item “Change of the association's name” was dealt with; Since in the meantime the association of the same name in Neuchâtel no longer existed, the name change was accepted by a large majority.

On November 13, 1861, the “Association of Young Merchants” was established at a founding meeting. At the beginning, 51 members were involved who “regularly gave lectures on commercial science as well as a French and an English course”. The social purposes were complemented by meetings held every 14 days with English, French, Italian and scientific courses.

history

In 1897 the Cantonal Association of Bernese Commercial Associations was founded. Around 20 years later, in 1918, women were granted membership in the association for the first time. In 1961, the Bern Commercial Association founded the Higher Commercial Comprehensive School (HKG) and in 1988 evening sales in downtown Bern could be maintained thanks to the cooperation of the Bern Commercial Association. In the same year, in cooperation with what would later become Unia, a collective labor contract was signed with the Bern-based company Reinhard und Partner, Planer und Architekten AG.

The association entered the seminar business in 1991 with the newly founded Bern vocational training center bbb. Two years later the association newspaper was relaunched with "KV Aktiv". In 1999, the KPT health insurance company met the workforce's demands after a labor dispute with the assistance of the Bern Commercial Association.

In 2006, a further training program was developed together with the Thun Business and Management School. In the same year, the association concluded a collective labor agreement with the Unia union for the Aarberg and Frauenfeld AG sugar factories. In the same year, a collective employment contract for commercial employees / sales staff in Bern and the surrounding area was concluded with the Association of Bern trading companies. In 2006, with the support of the Bern Section of the Trade and Industry Association of the Canton of Bern and the Association of Employers in the Bern Region, a recommendation for commercial apprentices and those who had been dismissed from their apprenticeships was drawn up in Bern and the surrounding area. Three years later, working conditions for apprenticeships to become a clerk with higher wages and more vacation entitlement were worked out.

In 2011, all seven previous KV sections in the canton of Bern were merged to form the Bern Commercial Association. In 2011, KV Bern made a new appearance, both visually and communicatively.
