Kauno Antero Kleemola (* July 15, 1906 in Kälviä , today: Kokkola ; † March 12, 1965 in Kannus ) was a Finnish politician of the Landbund ML (Maalaisliitto) , who among other things was minister several times and lastly from 1962 until his death in 1965 president of the Reichstag (Eduskunta) was.

Life

Kauno Antero Kleemola worked as a farmer and was elected for the first time as a member of the Reichstag (Eduskunta) in the election on July 1 and 2, 1939 for the Landbund ML (Maalaisliitto) and belonged to this until 1945. In the election on July 1 and 2, 1948 , he was re-elected for the Landbund as a member of the Reichstag, which he now belonged to until his death on March 12, 1965. On March 17, 1950 he took over a government office in the Kekkonen I cabinet for the first time and served as a minister in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works (2. Kulkulaitosministeri) until January 17, 1951 . At the same time he was minister in the Ministry of Social Affairs (Ministeri sosiaaliministeriössä) between March 24 and September 30, 1950 . In the Kekkonen II cabinet that followed , he remained minister in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works from January 17 to September 20, 1951 and held the post of minister in the Ministry of Transport and Public Works between September 20, 1951 and July 9 1953 also in the Kekkonen III cabinet .

Kleemola was also chairman of the State Sports Council (Valtion liikuntaneuvosto) as the successor to Arvo Vartia in 1951 and held this position until his death, whereupon JE Niemi succeeded him. At the same time, he took over from Väinö Adolf Mathias Karikoski in 1951 as chairman of the Finnish Sports Association SVUL (Suomen Valtakunnan Urheiluliitto) and held this position until he was replaced by Akseli Kaskela in 1960.

In the Kekkonen IV cabinet , Kauno Kleemola became Minister of Defense of Finland (Puolustusministeri) on July 9, 1953 and remained in this office until November 17, 1953. In the Fagerholm II cabinet , he took over the office of Minister for Trade and Industry on March 3, 1956 (Kauppa -ja teollisuusministeri) and held this office until May 27, 1957. On January 13, 1959, he was appointed Minister for Transport and Public Works (Kulkulaitosministeri) in the Sukselainen II cabinet and held this office until July 14, 1961. In this cabinet he last acted from July 3 to 14, 1961 as Deputy Prime Minister for eleven days. In the Miettunen I cabinet that followed , he continued to take over the post of Minister for Transport and Public Works on July 14, 1961, and held this position until February 26, 1962, when Eeli Erkkilä took over as his successor. In 1962 he also became a member of the Agriculture Council (Maanviljelysneuvos) .

Shortly before leaving the government, Kleemola was elected President of the Reichstag on February 24, 1962 as the successor to Karl-August Fagerholm . He held this office until his death on March 12, 1965. After that, Karl-August Fagerholm took over again.
