Cabinet Kekkonen III

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kekkonen III cabinet was the 35th government cabinet in Finnish history . It was in office from September 20, 1951 to July 9, 1953 (659 days).

New elections were held in Finland on July 2 and 3, 1951 . In September, Kekkonen's third cabinet with the Landbund politician Urho Kekkonen was sworn in as Prime Minister, although the Social Democrats had replaced the Landbund as the strongest force in the elections. The government with a majority consisted of the Landbund, the Social Democratic Party and the Swedish People's Party, which were already represented in the Kekkonen II cabinet. Only the National Progressive Party no longer belonged to the government, as the party had dissolved in the spring of 1951.

In June 1953, Kekkonen announced his resignation due to persistent differences between the Landbund and the Social Democrats over a cost-cutting program that was supposed to prevent an impending recession. President Juho Kusti Paasikivi then commissioned Kekkonen to form a minority government. Kekkonen formed a new government with the Swedish People's Party in the summer of 1953, but it only remained in office for four more months until mid-November.
