The Žalgirio Arena (also Kauno Arena ) is a multi-purpose hall in the second largest Lithuanian city of Kaunas , on the Nemunas Island. The Žalgirio Arena is located on Karaliaus Mindaugo prospektas street . It is the home ground of the Kauno Žalgiris basketball team .
history
The construction project started in August 2008 and the foundation stone was laid on September 26th of that year . On August 18, 2011, shortly before the start of the European basketball championship , the hall was officially opened and all games of the final round were played in the Žalgirio Arena. On December 5, 2015, the Lithuanian group Sel gave a concert in front of a record crowd of 20,517 spectators.
From April 22 to 28, 2018, the division IB tournament of the Men's Ice Hockey World Championship ( IIHF ) took place in the hall .
