Valstybinė akcinė bendrovė Kauno maistas was one of the larger meat companies in Lithuania , based in Kaunas , in the Aleksotas district . It processed meat .
Maistas
In 1923 akcinė bendrovė "Maistas" was founded. First there was milk and egg trade, later there was cattle and poultry trade, meat production and export. "Maistas" was organized cooperatively. The largest shareholder was the government of Lithuania . Other shareholders were the farmers. The company had five major slaughterhouses where the produce bought by the farmers was slaughtered and prepared for sale. "Maistas" dominated the pig trade. In addition, cattle, geese, turkeys and rabbits were bought from the farmers. The state provided the export subsidies to cover losses. For every sale of a pig, the farmer had the right to buy one "Maistas" share for 5 Litas (from 1935 for 2.5 Lt; the right was revoked in 1938). From 1931 to 1933 meat factories were built in Tauragė , Kaunas, Šiauliai . In 1939 a leather factory in Šiauliai was bought. "Maistas" had 69 company meat product stores and five wholesale bases. The new company founded in Klaipėda in 1927 was the largest exporter of meat to the UK . In addition, they had a long-term English order for the delivery of pig bristle hair for the manufacture of brushes .
Kauno mėsos Kombatas
In 1940 the Soviet government nationalized the company and founded the state-owned company Kauno mėsos Kombatas (German: Kaunas Meat Combine ). In 1977 the company produced 46,500 tons of meat, 8,700 tons of sausages and grated meat products, 2,500 tons of fats, 2,580 tons of meat and bone meal worth 108.6 million rubles . They exported to Poland , Cuba , France , Austria , Yugoslavia and republics of the Soviet Union. During the Soviet occupation, the company belonged to the state ( Soviet Lithuania ).
Kauno maistas
After Lithuania regained independence, the combine became a state joint stock company (VAB) "Kauno maistas". Bone meal was made from the technical oil. The production was sold to the Lithuanian company AB "Kauno muilas" (with 70 employees), which could not work at full capacity due to the lack of raw materials. On April 30, 1996, bankruptcy proceedings were opened at the Kaunas District Court . On December 18, 2003 "Kauno maistas" was dissolved. In 2005, Garantinis fondas paid Lt 246,900 to the former employees of the insolvent company. In 2007, the Lithuanian Ministry of Economy sold industrial and functional buildings with equipment in Kaunas, Kėdainiai , Jonava , a holiday home in Juodkrantė , cars, tractors and other machines at auction . UAB "Samsonas" meat company bought the cattle shopping center in Šakiai from AB "Kauno maistas" and then reconstructed it. In 2012, the eight hectare polluted territory of the combine was cleaned in nine months with the financing of EU structural funds (2.6 million litas or 0.7 million euros ).
