The St. Martin storage power plant (also known as the St. Martin cavern power plant ) is a storage power plant built in 1965 in the municipality of St. Martin am Wöllmißberg in the Austrian state of Styria . The cavern-built power plant with a bottleneck capacity of 9.8  MW is supplied with head water from the Hirzmann storage facility .

location

The power plants are located on the middle course of the Teigitsch between the two reservoirs Hirzmann and Langmann . The company building is 647  m above sea level. A. around 2.7 km south of the municipality capital St. Martin am Wöllmißberg and is not accessible via a road with public transport.

history

14 years after the construction of the Hirzmannsperre , STEWEAG decided in March 1964 to build the St. Martin power station cavern . Construction began that same month. The ELIN-Union produced the largest asynchronous generator in Austria at the time for the power plant with a generator voltage of 6.3 kV and a nominal output of 11  MW . Commissioning took place in December 1965, and the expansion of the Teigitsch group was thus completed.

In 1972, heavy rains caused a rock fall . Debris and debris severely damaged not only the company building, but also the gantry crane and parts of the switchgear with the machine transformer . Before the system could go back into operation, extensive renovation and repair measures were necessary. The stator was renewed during an overhaul in 2008.

description

Schematic representation of the force descent and cavern

The superficial power plants consist of the operating building, an open-air switchgear to the east and a gantry crane over the assembly opening of the cavern . The cavern, which is 27 m underground on a circular floor plan, has a diameter of 14.8 m and houses the power house . The installations consist of a Kaplan turbine with horizontal shaft and the three-phase - asynchronous generator .

Consisting of the year memory Hirzmann and the remote memory Pack derived penstock is of the former over a 985 m long pressure tunnel to the water lock initiated and a 121 m long armored pressure shaft, while the worked off water through a 195 m long tailrace the memory Langmann is supplied. A 110- kV - high voltage line leads the energy generated to power plant Arnstein from. Alternatively, there is an option to feed into the regional medium-voltage network of STEWEAG with 20 kV. In this way, 15.5  GWh of electricity are generated annually .
